I’M OKAY

In Canada and around the world the suicide rate among males has consistently been at least double that of females over the past two decades. In 2021, there were around 15 suicide deaths per 100,000 population among males in Canada, compared to a rate of five per 100,000 among females. Reference

"I'm Okay" is about breaking the silence. It explores how societal norms pressure men to suppress their emotions, making it difficult for them to express themselves and leaving them feeling trapped. The piece is inspired by the struggles men face in seeking expression and acceptance within society. It serves as a reminder to Black men that their struggles are seen, encouraging them to speak up and recognize their experiences on a deeper level.

BANTU ( people )

There is no such thing as "good hair" or the idea that black woman’s hair needs to be "fixed." Every hair texture is beautiful. Wearing our natural Black hair in its natural state, or styling it in Bantu knots and other traditional looks, does not make it any less attractive.

As Black women, our hair is a reflection of our identity, culture, and beauty, it’s not unprofessional or less desirable. We must not let the world convince us otherwise.

LOCK

This piece celebrates the beauty and strength of dreadlocks, challenging the idea that hair defines character or professionalism. With a confident gaze and a deep connection to African heritage, it highlights self expression and identity.

The contrast between his crisp white shirt and free flowing short dreadlocks hair reflects the balance between tradition and modernity. It’s a reminder that who we are is shaped by our values and actions, not by how we wear our hair.

Through this piece , the artist invite you to embrace the beauty, diversity, and power of Black hair unapologetically.

2022 Rhythm of motherland

She moves with the spirit of those who came before her

her ancestors whisper through every step, every graceful motion of her arms. Wrapped in the colors of struggle, hope, and unity, she carries the weight of history yet dances with the lightness of freedom.

The red of her garment speaks of sacrifices made, battles fought, and dreams carried forward. The green flows like the promise of a new chapter, and the white embraces her like peace finally found.

Behind her are two traditional Burundian baskets commonly used at burundian weddings known for their symbolic significance. These baskets represent craftsmanship, and the artistic traditions passed down through generations

In this moment, she is more than a dancer. She is a keeper of heritage through Art , a vessel of strength, a bridge between past and future. Her heritage is a celebration, a prayer, and a reminder that no matter how far she goes, the rhythm of the motherland will always beat within her.

SHE

Embodies theme of resilience, individuality, and self-determination. She is a dreamer with bold ambitions, unshaken by society’s judgments. With strength and courage, she reclaims her narrative, transforming challenges into triumphs. Her earring is shaped like the map of Burundi, featuring its national flag colors, which emphasizes the artist deep roots and unwavering spirit. Draped in a garment that reflects traditional patterns and colors, she represents strength, artistry, and the beauty of self-reinvention.

Through this work, I explore the concept that art is not just a medium it serves as a voice, a shield, and a statement. Creativity for me is a form of resistance, and expression is a source of power.
